Temps for my i7 4771 is 56 c core temps at 3.5ghz, it's exactly the same as I had with the scythe ninja 3 rev b. I notice no difference between balanced and performance other than noise, so balanced seems perfect. It has 3 basic settings: quiet, balanced and performance. It is much quieter than my air cooler, by a lot too. So i'm checking that tonight and can report back. It may be an installation issue as apparently the back plate needs to be oriented a certain way, I didn't read this in the manual, but I may have missed it. they are exactly the same, just heat gets dumped outside my case. The temps are not improved from my old air cooler, though they also aren't any worse. I can't hear any pump noise when it's on max, that may be because there is a hydroponics setup about 3 feet from my computer that is continually bubbling.
